With Kentucky Basketball officially putting the finishing touches on its 2026-27 roster following the addition of Mark Mitchell on Saturday, the Wildcats can now shift more of their focus toward future recruiting classes, including 2027 and an early push for 2028.
That effort is already gaining momentum.
Five-star power forward Benjamin Berrouet is set to make an official visit to Kentucky from Friday, Oct. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 11, according to his father, who confirmed the news to A Sea of Blue.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward currently plays for Dynamic Prep in Irving, Texas and is quickly emerging as one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2028 class. According to the 247 Sports Composite, Berrouet ranks No. 13 overall nationally, No. 2 among power forwards and No. 3 in Texas. ESPN is even higher on him, ranking him as high as No. 5 in the class.
Berrouet already has close to 35 scholarship offers from programs including Houston, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Louisville, among others.
Kentucky extended an offer to Berrouet on July 7, and fewer than three months later, the Wildcats have secured an official visit to Lexington. Although Berrouet was born in Texas, his family has international ties through his Latvian-born mother, and he has represented Latvia at the international level.
His recruitment remains in its early stages, but it will be worth monitoring whether Kentucky can eventually beat out the many programs with strong connections to his home state.
At the moment, Kentucky does not have a publicly announced basketball event scheduled for the weekend of Berrouet’s visit. Big Blue Madness will take place the weekend before, while an exhibition matchup against Little Rock is scheduled for the following weekend.
That schedule could still change.
Multiple reports have indicated that Kentucky is expected to add a third exhibition game that has not yet been announced. If that contest ends up falling during Berrouet’s visit, Mark Pope and his staff would have another major opportunity to showcase the program.
Kentucky Football will also provide plenty of activity on campus that weekend, as the Wildcats are scheduled to host Lane Kiffin and LSU at Kroger Field. Considering the history surrounding the programs, Berrouet could arrive in Lexington during one of the more eventful weekends of the fall.
Keeneland will also be underway, potentially giving Pope another opportunity to spend time with Berrouet and his family. Pope has previously used trips to Keeneland as part of the recruiting experience, including with Amari Williams and Lamar Wilkerson.
It is far too early to predict where Berrouet will ultimately begin his college career.
Still, bringing a top-15 national prospect in the 2028 class to campus for an official visit represents another encouraging development for Pope and Kentucky. The Wildcats are making an early move in Berrouet’s recruitment, and with plenty of time before a final decision, they will have every opportunity to make a lasting impression on one of the country’s top young forwards.
