Notre Dame Basketball Recruiting: 4-Star Guard Jonathan Sanderson Chooses the Irish
By Joshua Vowles – June 8, 2025
The Notre Dame men’s basketball team kicked off its 2026 recruiting class with a major addition on Sunday as 4-star guard Jonathan Sanderson committed to head coach Micah Shrewsberry and the Fighting Irish.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 170 pounds, Sanderson is set to spend his senior year at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana—a program already familiar to Notre Dame fans thanks to the recent commitment of 5-star talent Jalen Haralson in the 2025 cycle.
Basketball runs in the family for Sanderson. His father, a former Ohio State Buckeye from the late 1990s, was recently named Notre Dame’s Director of Men’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning, a move that may have helped tilt the scales in the Irish’s favor.
Jonathan Sanderson didn’t just pass up his father’s alma mater; he also chose Notre Dame over a host of top programs, including Michigan State, Purdue, and Indiana.
He becomes the first pledge in Notre Dame’s 2026 class and, even as the lone commit, has already helped vault the Irish to No. 7 nationally in the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.
