THIS IS BIG: Kentucky Pushes to Complete Another Star-Studded Recruiting Class

LEXINGTON, Ky.  Kentucky basketball is turning up the pressure on the 2027 recruiting trail as Mark Pope and his staff continue their pursuit of another elite prospect to join the Wildcats.

Kentucky already has Ryan Hampton committed for 2027, giving the program an important piece to build around. Hampton committed to Kentucky in June, although his ranking has shifted in subsequent recruiting updates.

Now, attention is turning toward Lewis Uvwo, a highly regarded 6-foot-11 center who has emerged as one of Kentucky’s major recruiting targets.

Uvwo’s recruitment became especially significant when he scheduled an official visit to Lexington for September 11–13. He also had visits planned with Baylor, California and Providence.

🔵 Kentucky Wants the Next Big Piece

Uvwo brings a completely different dimension to the recruiting class.

During Peach Jam, he averaged 11.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game, showcasing the rebounding and rim-protection ability that has attracted major programs.

Kentucky’s interest also makes sense from a roster-building standpoint. Recent reporting has identified the center position as an important area for Pope and his staff to address in the 2027 class.

🔥 The Recruiting Battle Is Still Open

Kentucky has competition.

Uvwo has attracted interest from several major programs, meaning the Wildcats cannot assume that an official visit will automatically lead to a commitment.

But the fact that Kentucky secured an official visit demonstrates the level of attention Pope’s staff is giving the five-star center.

Recent recruiting coverage has also reported continued Kentucky momentum around Uvwo following his visit, although there has been no commitment announcement from the center.

 Hampton Could Help Kentucky’s Pitch

One interesting part of Kentucky’s recruiting strategy is the possibility of building relationships between current commitments and other elite prospects.

Hampton has already been identified as a player Kentucky can recruit around as Pope continues pursuing additional high-level talent.

If the Wildcats eventually add Uvwo, Kentucky would have another major building block for the 2027 class and a potential interior presence to complement its perimeter talent.

The recruitment is not over yet, but Kentucky is clearly making Uvwo a major priority.
