Kentucky Makes Major Push to Land 6’7″ Five-Star Forward AJ Williams
Kentucky Basketball has put itself firmly in the conversation for one of the biggest names in the 2027 recruiting class, with five-star forward AJ Williams now keeping the Wildcats among his final group of schools.

The 6-foot-7 small forward from Eagles Landing Christian Academy in Georgia recently trimmed his recruitment to 10 programs, and Kentucky made the cut alongside Duke, North Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, BYU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Mississippi State.
For Mark Pope and the Wildcats, getting into Williams’ final 10 represents an important opportunity to pursue an elite wing with considerable size, athleticism and scoring ability.
Williams is currently ranked among the nation’s top prospects. The Rivals Industry Ranking has him at No. 4 overall in the 2027 class, while 247Sports and ESPN have also placed him inside the national top five.
A Major Addition for Mark Pope?
Williams brings the type of versatility that could make him a highly valuable addition to a future Kentucky roster.
At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, he has the size to operate as a wing while possessing the offensive ability to create shots and attack defenders. During his sophomore season at Eagles Landing Christian Academy, Williams averaged an impressive 31.8 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.
He also competed for Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game during the summer.
His development has also included USA Basketball experience, where he helped the United States win gold at the FIBA U17 AmeriCup.
Kentucky Has Work to Do
While Kentucky is now firmly in the recruitment, Williams has not committed to the Wildcats.
The highly recruited forward has already made unofficial visits to Duke, Auburn and Georgia Tech and is currently working on scheduling additional official visits.
That means Kentucky will need to continue building its relationship with Williams and convince him that Lexington is the right destination for the next stage of his basketball career.
The competition is significant, with several traditional national powers still involved.
Big Blue Nation Has a New Name to Watch
For Kentucky fans, AJ Williams is now a name worth following closely.
A commitment from a player of his caliber would give Mark Pope another elite piece for the future and potentially add a powerful combination of size, scoring and athleticism to the Wildcats’ recruiting pipeline.
For now, Williams remains uncommitted and Kentucky remains one of 10 schools in contention.
But with the Wildcats officially inside the race, Big Blue Nation has every reason to keep a close eye on what happens next in the AJ Williams recruitment.
