JUST IN: Cardinals Trade Hopes Dashed: 2 Stars Refuse to Waive No-Trade Clauses.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, rumors continue to swirl around potential moves for the St. Louis Cardinals. However, two key pitchers appear to be off the table. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, both Sonny Gray and Miles Mikolas have shown “no interest” in waiving their no-trade clauses, effectively removing themselves from trade consideration — at least for now.

Despite interest from several teams around the league, both veterans are reportedly committed to staying in St. Louis. Gray and Mikolas each hold full no-trade protection, and neither is currently willing to make a move, per the report.

The Cardinals’ recent surge in the standings has been driven in large part by the performance of their starting rotation. Heading into Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis sits tied for second in the NL Central with a 42–35 record. After a sluggish start, the team found its rhythm in May and early June, winning six of its last ten contests.

Gray leads the rotation with a 7–2 record and a 3.74 ERA, along with a team-high 90 strikeouts and the most innings pitched. Mikolas has been solid as well, posting a 4–4 record and a 4.35 ERA. Overall, the Cardinals rank 18th in the majors with a team ERA of 3.94.

With contenders like the Yankees actively seeking starting pitching before the July 31 deadline, it’s clear that Gray and Mikolas would draw significant trade interest — if they were available. For now, though, it looks like the Cardinals’ rotation will remain intact as they continue their push for a postseason spot.
