The Buffalo Bills may soon have another offensive weapon to consider adding to their retooled passing attack.
After parting ways with star receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, the Bills embraced a more balanced, “everyone eats” approach in 2024. The strategy involved spreading the ball around to a deeper group of targets, including rookies like Keon Coleman and several veteran additions. But some analysts believe Buffalo should take another swing at landing a top-tier receiver ahead of the 2025 season.

Chris Olave Emerges as Potential Trade Target
Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers have shown early interest in acquiring New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, a breakout star who has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. While trade talks are still in the preliminary phase, the report has stirred speculation across the league.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers have discussed the possibility of trading for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave,” Saunders wrote, noting that the situation is still in its infancy.
There’s no confirmation that New Orleans is actively shopping Olave, but his name quickly surfaced as a desirable trade target—especially for teams like the Bills, who are still looking to solidify their receiving corps.
Fans & Analysts Want Buffalo in the Mix
As the rumor mill heated up, fans and football analysts alike urged the Bills to join the race for Olave.
On X (formerly Twitter), one fan account posted:
“If the rumors of a potential Chris Olave trade are true… Should the Bills try and get him? #BillsMafia”
In fact, speculation about the Bills’ interest in Olave isn’t new. Back in March, Matt Parrino of New York Upstate listed the Saints wideout as a possible trade target for Buffalo, citing his high ceiling and current contract situation.
Olave, now entering the final season of his rookie deal worth $19 million, has totaled 191 receptions, 2,565 yards, and 10 touchdowns over his first three years. If acquired, he could quickly become a top option for quarterback Josh Allen.
Keon Coleman Poised for Breakout Year
While a potential trade could shake up the depth chart, the Bills still have high hopes for Keon Coleman, their 2024 second-round pick. The former Florida State star impressed in limited action as a rookie, showcasing his ability to win contested catches and work against tight coverage.
Ben Solak of ESPN noted Coleman’s upside going into his second season.
“The big-bodied, contested-catch expert from Florida State was exactly that for the Bills in his rookie season,” Solak wrote. “Though he typically wins with physicality, Coleman showed enough wiggle in his routes and surprising shiftiness after the catch. There’s an exciting profile there.”
Solak added that Coleman is expected to take on a bigger role in 2025, expanding his route tree and gaining more trust from Allen..
Free Agency and Draft Decisions Reflect Confidence in Youth
The Bills made minimal moves at wide receiver in the 2024 draft, selecting Kaden Prather in the seventh round with the 240th overall pick. In free agency, they signed former Jets and Browns wideout Elijah Moore and also added Laviska Shenault Jr., who may be used in both receiving and return roles.
With no clear No. 1 receiver in the current rotation, the addition of someone like Olave would give Buffalo a more explosive downfield presence and a potential long-term piece in the offense. But at the same time, the team appears confident in its younger core, particularly Coleman.
Whether the Bills choose to make a major move like trading for Chris Olave or continue developing their homegrown talent, one thing is clear: Josh Allen will have new tools to work with in 2025—and possibly even more if the front office makes a splash.
