3 New York Rangers Likely Done in Manhattan After 2024-25

As the offseason begins, the New York Rangers face several roster questions heading into free agency on July 1. Among them: which players won’t be returning? Here are three names expected to move on.

1. Matt Rempe
It looks like the Rangers are ready to move on from fan-favorite enforcer Matt Rempe. Although he’s a free agent and wouldn’t cost much to re-sign, there’s little incentive to bring him back.
Plenty of teams around the league value a throwback tough guy like Rempe, and he could easily find a home elsewhere—especially if the money’s right. Given his physical style and potential for injury or disciplinary issues, his NHL career could be short, and he’ll likely want to maximize his earnings now.
It’s tough for fans to say goodbye, but the writing is on the wall—Rempe has probably played his last game for the Blueshirts.
2. K’Andre Miller
Contract talks between the Rangers and defenseman K’Andre Miller have dragged on with no resolution, signaling potential trouble. After the trade of Ryan Lindgren to Colorado, the expectation was that Miller would take on a bigger role, likely alongside Adam Fox.
He had a solid—though unspectacular—season, but the delay in getting a deal done suggests that a departure is possible. Some believe Miller may already be eyeing a new team, with the St. Louis Blues rumored as a possible landing spot.
3. Chris Kreider
After 13 seasons with the Rangers, it seems the time has come to part ways with Chris Kreider. The veteran winger gave all he had to the franchise, but signs point to his exit.
The emotional final game against Tampa Bay, especially during broadcaster Sam Rosen’s farewell, felt like a goodbye for Kreider too. His body language and interaction with fans hinted at closure. He still has time to chase the Stanley Cup with another contender—something he’s never been able to accomplish in New York.
While nothing’s official yet, these three names seem destined to wear different jerseys come next season.
