Nationals Rookie Dylan Crews to Undergo MRI for Side and Back Discomfort
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Nationals rookie outfielder Dylan Crews is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday after experiencing soreness in his lower left side and back. The discomfort forced him to exit Tuesday night’s 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the sixth inning.
Crews said he aggravated the issue during a fifth-inning plate appearance, during which he drew a walk.
“It grabbed a bit on the check swing,” said Crews, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. “It’s unfortunate.”
Nationals manager Dave Martinez noted that Crews has been dealing with tightness in the same area since making a diving play in last week’s series against Atlanta.
“I’m a little concerned,” Martinez admitted. “It’s one of those gray areas that could mean a number of things.”
Before leaving the game, Crews launched a solo home run in the second inning off Braves ace Spencer Strider — a hit that ultimately proved to be the game-winner.
The 23-year-old outfielder has now homered in back-to-back games, following a three-run blast in Sunday’s 10-4 win over the Orioles. Crews is currently batting .196 with seven home runs and 15 RBIs on the season.
