Dylan Cease has become the first MLB player of the offseason to secure a huge free-agent contract.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Cease is joining the Toronto Blue Jays on a seven-year, $210 million deal, pending a physical.
Despite an uneven 2025 campaign with the San Diego Padreswhere he posted a 4.55 ERA across 32 startsCease’s overall résumé still commanded a major payday. He owns a career 3.88 ERA and has twice finished in the top four of Cy Young voting, which helped boost his value.

The Blue Jays are clearly pushing to return to the World Series and take the next step in 2026. Cease is expected to slot near the top of Toronto’s rotation alongside Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, and Trey Yesavage, forming one of the league’s stronger starting groups. The contract is now the largest free-agent deal in franchise history.

With Cease secured, Toronto’s focus could shift to free-agent shortstop Bo Bichette. It remains uncertain whether committing such a large sum to Cease will affect the team’s ability to bring Bichette back.
