The Chicago Blackhawks have officially signed Swedish center Anton Frondell, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract worth $2.925 million. The deal averages $975,000 per season and solidifies the future of one of the top international prospects in this year’s draft class.
At just 18, Frondell is expected to compete for a spot on Chicago’s NHL roster during training camp. Should he need more time to develop, he may return to his native Sweden to rejoin Djurgarden.

Breakout Season with Djurgarden Highlights Frondell’s Potential
Frondell has spent the last several years climbing the ranks with Djurgarden, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team earn promotion to the top-tier Swedish Hockey League (SHL) after three seasons in the Allsvenskan. Measuring 6-foot-1 and 198 pounds, Frondell showcased his dual-threat capability as both a scorer and a playmaker.
In the 2024–25 season, he tallied 25 points across 29 regular-season games and added seven more in the playoffs. His performance earned him the No. 1 spot among international skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings.
Though his eyes are on the NHL, Frondell remains deeply connected to Djurgarden, where he’s played since the age of 15. He called it the best atmosphere in Sweden and praised the club’s passionate fanbase. He also made it clear that he’s ready to pursue his NHL dream, but open to returning to Djurgarden for further seasoning if necessary.
Frondell Brings Complete Game and NHL-Ready Maturity
Frondell’s game has drawn praise from scouts for its maturity and versatility. Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson emphasized his all-around abilities, noting that Frondell brings a mix of hockey IQ, grit, and adaptability that make him suited for different styles of play—traits especially valuable during postseason runs.
Scouting reviews have hailed Frondell’s physicality and intelligence on the ice. NHL Central Scouting’s European director, Jukka-Pekka Vuorinen, even compared him to a “military tank” due to his strength and balance in tight battles.
Frondell is also recognized for his strong offensive instincts—quick, accurate shooting, smart distribution, and a solid presence on the power play. With his blend of strength, skill, and poise, Anton Frondell is seen as a foundational piece for the Blackhawks’ long-term plans.
