Former Bills Running Back Reportedly Planning NFL Return After Serious Injury
Back in the 2022 season, the Buffalo Bills were in need of a spark in their backfield. Under first-year offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, the offense had grown overly dependent on Josh Allen, with the running game lacking a real threat.
In response, the Bills made a midseason trade, sending running back Zack Moss and a conditional 2023 sixth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Nyheim Hines. Moss had struggled to make an impact in Buffalo, while Hines offered value as both a running back and a special teams weapon.
Hines made his most memorable contribution in Week 18 of that season against the New England Patriots. In a performance that proved to be game-changing, he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, helping the Bills secure a 35–23 win. Without those returns, the outcome of that game might have been very different.
Heading into the 2023 offseason, Hines was expected to get a fresh start with the Bills and finally have a chance to settle into the system. However, his plans were derailed when he suffered a torn ACL in a jet ski accident during the summer. He was subsequently placed on the reserve/non-football injury list and ultimately released ahead of the 2024 season.
Now, reports suggest that Hines is eyeing an NFL comeback following his recovery from the devastating injury.
