Montreal Canadiens Trade Defenseman Logan Mailloux to St. Louis Blues in Exchange for Zachary Bolduc
The Montreal Canadiens have made a notable move to kick off July, announcing the trade of young defenseman Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues. In return, the Canadiens acquire forward Zachary Bolduc, a promising right-winger with NHL experience and ties to Quebec.
The trade was officially announced just before noon on Tuesday by Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes, who confirmed that the 22-year-old Mailloux would be heading to St. Louis, while Montreal brings in Bolduc, a 23-year-old native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
About Zachary Bolduc: A Homegrown Talent Comes to Montreal
Zachary Bolduc was selected 17th overall by the Blues in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft and has been working his way up within the organization. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 187 pounds, Bolduc brings size, skill, and a scoring touch that could complement the Canadiens’ forward group.
Last season, Bolduc appeared in 72 games for St. Louis, registering 19 goals and 17 assists, totaling 36 points. In his 97 career NHL games, he has posted 24 goals and 21 assists (45 points)—a solid foundation for a young player still developing at the NHL level.
The Canadiens hope Bolduc’s return to his home province will spark even more growth, both on and off the ice, and give Montreal added depth and versatility at the wing.
Logan Mailloux’s Journey: From Controversial Pick to NHL Debut
Logan Mailloux, who was drafted 31st overall by the Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Draft, has had a career marked by both promise and controversy. After being selected under scrutiny, Mailloux worked through development stages in the AHL with the Laval Rocket, where he showed notable progress in his game.
In the 2024-25 season, Mailloux played 63 games with Laval, recording 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points. His strong performance earned him a call-up to the NHL late in the season. He made his debut at the Bell Centre on April 16, 2024, and went on to play seven games with the Canadiens, where he posted 2 goals and 2 assists (4 points).
At just 22, Mailloux remains a developing talent, and the Blues will look to further refine his skills and potentially integrate him into their blue line rotation. St. Louis is known for investing in young defensemen, and Mailloux fits that mold with his offensive upside and physical game.
Why the Trade Makes Sense for Both Teams
For the Canadiens, the trade represents an opportunity to add a skilled forward with NHL experience and local roots. Bolduc could thrive in a system that emphasizes speed, youth, and offensive creativity—especially as the Habs continue their rebuild and youth movement.
For the Blues, acquiring Mailloux adds depth and potential to their defense corps. Despite his limited NHL exposure, his offensive capabilities and size (6’3″) make him an intriguing addition to the organization’s long-term plans.
Looking Ahead
This trade signals that both teams are continuing to shape their rosters with a focus on the future. Montreal adds scoring depth up front with a local player fans can rally behind, while St. Louis strengthens its defensive prospects with a first-rounder who is beginning to find his footing at the professional level.
As always, only time will tell which team got the better end of the deal, but for now, it’s a calculated swap between two organizations hoping to get the most out of their young talent.
