GOOD NEWS: Braves Roll to Big Win as Familiar Face Returns

Braves Roll to Big Win as Familiar Face Returns

The Atlanta Braves are soaring again.

Fresh off a commanding 7–3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Truist Park, the Braves seem to have found new life—not only on the field but also in the clubhouse, thanks to the emotional return of one of the most beloved players in franchise history: Chipper Jones.

The former MVP, Hall of Famer, and lifelong Brave was officially announced before the game as Atlanta’s new team consultant for hitting development, returning to the organization in a more hands-on role after several years of part-time advisory work.

And fittingly, his presence coincided with one of the Braves’ most complete team performances of the season.

The Game: All-Around Domination

Led by Austin Riley’s three-run homer in the 4th inning and a six-inning, two-run performance from Max Fried, the Braves controlled the game from start to finish. Matt Olson added a pair of doubles, and Michael Harris II made a spectacular catch in center to rob Bryce Harper of a potential game-tying hit in the 7th.

The Braves, now sitting just three games out of second place in the NL East, looked sharper and more focused—a shift that players and fans alike are crediting, at least in part, to Chipper’s return.

“There’s a different energy in the dugout,” said Riley postgame. “You can feel it when a legend like Chipper is around. His advice already helped me with my swing this week.”

 Chipper’s Return – A Legend’s Next Chapter

Chipper’s Legacy Reignited

Chipper Jones needs no introduction in Atlanta. A career .303 hitter, 468 home runs, and over 2,700 hits — all in a Braves uniform — the 1999 National League MVP became a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2018 and is widely considered one of the greatest switch-hitters of all time.

Now, at 53, he’s returning to serve as the Braves’ Hitting Strategy Consultant, a hybrid role that blends coaching, mentorship, and long-term offensive planning. Unlike his prior part-time advisory position, this role places Chipper in the dugout and on the field during home games, where he’ll work closely with Atlanta’s hitters, particularly the younger core.

“This place gave me everything,” Chipper said at his re-introductory press conference. “It’s time I give a little more back.”

He’ll be focusing on approach, mechanics, and situational hitting—areas where Atlanta has struggled during stretches of the 2025 season. Players like Harris, Riley, and Arcia have already begun working one-on-one with the Hall of Famer.

A Familiar Voice with a Winning Pedigree

Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos called it “a home run move for the entire organization,” emphasizing that Chipper brings not just baseball IQ but also credibility and leadership.

“When Chipper speaks, players listen. And they know he’s been there—through slumps, through championships. He’s the voice we need right now.”

Momentum Building

The Braves’ victory over the Phillies marks their fourth win in the last five games and has helped them inch closer to .500 for the season. With Ronald Acuña Jr. heating up, Riley rediscovering his power, and Fried leading a reinvigorated rotation, the pieces are beginning to come together.

The return of Chipper Jones only adds to the momentum.

“When you bring in someone like Chipper,” said manager Brian Snitker, “you’re not just adding a coach. You’re adding a mindset.”

What’s Next?

The Braves will continue their series against the Phillies with young ace Spencer Schwellenbach taking the mound in Game 2. Meanwhile, Chipper is expected to travel with the team for their upcoming West Coast road trip, working daily with hitters to sharpen their plate discipline and unlock more run production.

Fans at Truist Park have responded with thunderous ovations for their returning hero, many wearing No. 10 jerseys in tribute.

Chipper’s comeback may not involve a bat anymore—but his impact could be every bit as powerful as it was during his Hall of Fame career.
