Chipper Jones Returns to Braves in New Role: “Atlanta Is Home”
Atlanta, GA – June 12, 2025 — Braves legend and Hall of Famer Chipper Jones is officially rejoining the Atlanta Braves organization — not in uniform, but in a powerful new role that will connect generations of talent.
The team announced Thursday that Jones will serve as a Senior Advisor to Player Development, a position that allows the longtime third baseman to work directly with rising stars throughout the Braves system.
A Hall of Famer Comes Home
Jones, a career Brave from 1993 to 2012, finished his 19-year MLB career with a .303 average, 468 home runs, and one MVP award. He’s widely considered the greatest Braves player of the modern era and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
Though he has held part-time hitting instructor and consultant roles in recent years, this new position marks his most substantial front-office commitment yet.
“Atlanta is home,” Jones said at a press conference at Truist Park. “It always has been. I’m excited to take on a role that lets me help shape the future of this franchise, just like mentors did for me when I was coming up.”
Developing the Next Generation
In his new role, Jones will travel between Atlanta and the club’s minor league affiliates, spending time with top prospects like AJ Smith-Shawver, Drake Baldwin, and Hurston Waldrep. He’ll offer guidance on hitting, preparation, and the mental side of the game — areas he mastered during his stellar career.
Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos praised the move as a “huge win for the organization,” noting that few voices command more respect than Chipper’s in the clubhouse.
“Chipper is Braves baseball. Having him directly involved with our next wave of talent is invaluable.”
Could a Managerial Path Be Next?
While Jones has long resisted the daily grind of managing, some in the organization believe this could be a stepping stone to an even bigger role down the road. For now, he’s focused on mentoring — not managing.
“Right now, I’m just looking forward to being around the game, around the guys, and doing what I can to help this team keep winning,” Jones said.
Braves Fans React
As expected, Braves fans welcomed the news with open arms.
- “The GOAT is back! Let’s go!” one fan wrote on X.
- “Braves baseball just feels right when Chipper’s around,” another said.
Bottom Line: One of the greatest Braves in history is back in the fold — not chasing records, but building futures. For an organization already brimming with talent, the return of Chipper Jones adds another Hall of Fame layer to Atlanta’s winning culture.
