Proposed Trade Could Bring Speedy Lions Receiver to Buffalo as New Weapon for Josh Allen
The Buffalo Bills are heading into the 2025 season once again without a clear No. 1 wide receiver. For the second consecutive year, the team lacks a proven 1,000-yard threat.
While Khalil Shakir continues to show promise—posting a career-best 821 receiving yards last season—he primarily operates out of the slot and hasn’t emerged as a dominant red-zone option, totaling just seven career touchdowns.
Josh Allen’s favorite red-zone target from last season, Mack Hollins, is no longer with the team after signing with division rival New England Patriots. Buffalo’s biggest wide receiver addition, Josh Palmer, had just one touchdown in 2024 and has only 10 total over four NFL seasons.
Given the current roster limitations, the Bills may look to make a move—and one potential target could be Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams. Despite Detroit’s 15-2 season, Williams has been the subject of trade rumors stretching back to last year. With a future payday looming for the young wideout, the Lions could be open to trade talks.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports floated the idea of the Bills making a push for Williams, especially with the need to strengthen the receiving corps behind Shakir and rookie Keon Coleman.
“Buffalo still needs a wideout who can stretch the field,” Palacios noted. “Williams could be that long-term threat they’ve been missing, especially after losing Mack Hollins. He has the potential to thrive with one of the NFL’s most talented quarterbacks in Josh Allen.”
After a slow start to his NFL career, the former Alabama standout had a breakout season in 2024, recording 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns across 15 games. Williams emerged as Detroit’s premier deep threat, complementing Amon-Ra St. Brown to form one of the league’s most explosive receiver tandems.
Despite his success, Williams ranked just third in receptions on a Lions offense loaded with talent. In Buffalo, he’d likely become the focal point of the passing game. Pairing Williams’ elite speed and 17.3 yards-per-catch average with Allen’s rocket arm could lead to game-breaking plays on a weekly basis.
A trade would certainly shake things up in Buffalo—and could give Allen the kind of outside weapon he hasn’t had since Stefon Diggs’ peak years.
As the AFC East continues to grow more competitive, the Bills may need to make a bold move to stay in the Super Bowl hunt. A Jameson Williams trade could be just that.
