3 St. Louis Cardinals Players Fans Are Already Frustrated With in 2025
The St. Louis Cardinals are holding their own in a competitive NL Central, sitting just behind the Chicago Cubs with a 27–23 record after a recent 5–1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. While the team’s overall performance has been a pleasant surprise, especially amid a transition away from its longtime stars like Paul Goldschmidt, Adam Wainwright, and Yadier Molina, some players are drawing the ire of fans due to underwhelming play.
With a strong offensive output and solid pitching, the Cardinals have managed to stay in the hunt. But not everyone is pulling their weight—and the fanbase is taking notice. As new faces fill the clubhouse, expectations remain high, and several veterans and key players are underperforming.
Here are three players Cardinals fans are already losing patience with this season:
1. Nolan Arenado, 3B
It’s no secret that frustrations are mounting with veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado. Once a cornerstone of the franchise, Arenado is now reportedly being quietly shopped on the trade market, though there’s been little traction with other teams so far.
While Arenado still offers value with his all-around hitting and defense, his current stats don’t live up to the standards fans have come to expect. Batting just .242 with five home runs so far this season, he hasn’t provided the consistent power or leadership the Cardinals need. One of those homers was a game-winner, but that hasn’t been enough to sway public opinion.
At 34 years old and carrying a hefty contract, Arenado is beginning to look more like a liability than a leader. Though his name still commands respect around the league and his glove remains elite, fans are growing weary of his diminished production and are increasingly open to the idea of moving on.

His best fit might be on a contending team where he can fill a smaller, more specialized role—but unless his bat heats up soon, Cardinals fans may continue to view him as an expensive piece that no longer fits.
