JUST IN: Blues announces long term deal with Broberg & Holloway

In the summer of 2024, St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong made a bold move by signing young RFAs Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg to offer sheets, capitalizing on the Edmonton Oilers’ salary cap issues. That gamble paid off—both players exceeded expectations during the 2024–25 season, making strong cases to become long-term fixtures in the Blues’ lineup.

Holloway, a speedy and physical forward, was a major force on the Blues’ second line, scoring 26 goals and 37 assists in 77 games. His absence in the playoffs due to injury may have cost the team a series win. Broberg, a smooth-skating defenseman, contributed solid two-way play with eight goals and 21 assists in 68 games. His biggest impact came defensively and in transition, where he frequently disrupted opposing plays and initiated offensive pushes.

Given their standout performances, the Blues now face the question: should they lock these two up with long-term deals? The answer appears to be yes. Both Holloway and Broberg provided value far beyond their current contracts—Holloway ($2M) played at a level worth over $9M, while Broberg ($4.6M) performed like a $9M player, according to The Athletic’s Net Rating Model.

With both players just 23 years old, the Blues would be wise to secure them now with extensions similar to the ones Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou received. Doing so could ensure the team retains two cornerstone players at potentially below-market rates before their value rises even further.
