Joey Bosa Injury Deals Early Setback to Bills’ 2025 Season Plans

The Buffalo Bills, eager to make a strong Super Bowl push in 2025, have already hit an unexpected bump in the road. One of their top offseason acquisitions, edge rusher Joey Bosa, is dealing with a calf injury that will keep him sidelined until training camp.
Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed the injury on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Bosa reportedly strained his calf during a recent practice session. The team expects him to recover in time for training camp later this summer.
Buffalo signed Bosa to a one-year, $12.6 million deal in free agency to bolster their pass rush. While the move brought excitement, this early injury will understandably raise concern among fans.
Bosa’s injury history is well-documented. In his nine-year NFL career, he’s played a full season just three times, most recently in 2021. Last year with the Chargers, he appeared in 14 games but missed time with hip and lower back issues.
When healthy, Bosa is a major threat off the edge. He’s recorded at least five sacks in every season except one — the year he played in just five games. If he returns to form, he could form a dynamic duo with Greg Rousseau on the Bills’ defensive front.

Bills Reluctant Stars of ‘Hard Knocks’
Bosa’s recovery will be in the spotlight this summer thanks to the Bills being selected for HBO’s Hard Knocks, which will follow the team during training camp and preseason.
However, the team doesn’t appear thrilled about the spotlight. According to The Athletic’s Tim Graham, Buffalo treated the announcement more like a nuisance than an honor.
“There was no mention of the Hard Knocks news on the team’s website or social channels,” Graham noted. “No quotes from ownership, GM Brandon Beane, Coach McDermott, or even Josh Allen.”
Despite their reluctance, the behind-the-scenes access promises compelling viewing for fans. Hard Knocks premieres August 5.
