Three Clear Trade Candidates the Bills Might Move Before the 2025 Season
By Bryce Martino | 3 hours ago
As the Buffalo Bills hit a quiet stretch before training camp, the front office will use this time to reassess the roster and identify potential trade chips. With tough decisions looming, it’s possible the team moves on from a few players who could bring back useful assets. Here are three Bills who stand out as possible trade candidates ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
1. QB Mitch Trubisky
Trubisky returned to Buffalo last offseason on a two-year, $5.2 million deal, which raised eyebrows given the team’s typical approach to backup quarterbacks. Trading him would free up $2.5 million in cap space, per Spotrac.
With Mike White also on the roster, the Bills may feel comfortable moving on from Trubisky and installing White as Josh Allen’s primary backup. A deal might not come until late summer, but he’s a name worth monitoring.
2. DE AJ Epenesa
Epenesa re-signed on a two-year, $12 million contract and had a respectable 2024 season, finishing with 39 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and 11 QB hits. Still, Buffalo might see an opportunity to shed salary and make room for younger talent like Landon Jackson and Javon Solomon.
Trading Epenesa would save the Bills $6.2 million, while incurring only $1.2 million in dead cap, according to Spotrac. The team has shown a willingness to make similar moves before, like the 2023 trade of Carlos Basham to the Giants.
3. DT DeWayne Carter
Buffalo’s defensive line is suddenly deep following offseason additions of Deone Walker and TJ Sanders through the draft and Larry Ogunjobi in free agency. That leaves little room for second-year tackle DeWayne Carter, who underwhelmed as a rookie with just 14 tackles and five tackles for loss in 11 games.

With limited opportunity for playing time, Carter could be the odd man out. Trading him would save the team about $1 million in cap space, per Spotrac.
As the Bills gear up for another playoff push, they may opt to clear cap space and stockpile draft capital — and these three players could be the ones to help them do it.
