JUST IN: Texas Young slugger suffers massive setback as Rangers shuffle roster again.

Young Outfielder Faces Major Setback as Rangers Restructure Roster Again

The Texas Rangers have been hit with another blow to their already struggling offense, as promising young outfielder Evan Carter is back on the injured list—this time with a more severe quad strain than initially expected. Just before Sunday’s finale against the Astros, the team confirmed Carter is dealing with a Grade 2 strain and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Carter had already missed a few games in hopes that rest would help the injury heal, but the diagnosis delivered by manager Bruce Bochy has dashed those hopes. It’s a tough turn for Carter, who was given another opportunity this year to prove himself with the big league club after a rocky start.

Evan Carter update: What's the latest in on-again, off-again start ...

This marks yet another frustrating chapter for Carter and the Rangers. Around this time last year, Carter was shelved with a back issue that kept him out much longer than anticipated. He began this season with the major league squad but struggled at the plate and was sent down to Triple-A Round Rock to refine his approach. After performing well there, he earned a call-up—but his offensive woes continued. Currently, Carter is hitting just .182/.270/.273, all career lows.

To fill the gap, the Rangers have reinstated veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar from the IL, though his own stats—.237/.237/.289—don’t offer much optimism. Pillar managed just one hit in ten rehab plate appearances.

Along with Carter’s move to the IL and Pillar’s return, the Rangers also optioned reliever Cole Winn to Round Rock and promoted Caleb Boushley to the big league roster.
