Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze could be on the verge of suffering a major recruiting loss, as 4-star linebacker Shadarius Toodle appears to be trending toward flipping his commitment to Georgia. Toodle, who committed to Auburn in July, recently took an official visit to Athens that reportedly went exceptionally well.
According to recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong of On3, Georgia is now favored to flip Toodle — a significant blow to Freeze’s 2026 class. With Toodle now on “flip watch,” the pressure is mounting for Auburn to hold on to one of its top defensive pledges.

Toodle, ranked the No. 9 linebacker nationally and a top-10 player from Alabama, has drawn interest from several top programs and is also scheduled to visit Michigan, Baylor, and North Carolina — though it’s unclear if those visits will still happen in light of Georgia’s momentum.
This potential flip comes at a time when Freeze is already facing mounting pressure following two lackluster seasons and criticism for setting modest goals for the 2025 season. Losing Toodle would only fuel doubts about the direction of the program under Freeze and put more heat on Auburn’s embattled coach ahead of a critical year.
