The Vancouver Canucks have surprised many by signing Linus Karlsson, a previously under-the-radar forward, to a one-year, one-way contract extension for the 2025–26 season at the league minimum of $775,000. Karlsson, 25, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 3rd round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft but had to work his way up through the minors. After a standout season in the AHL with 21 goals and 13 assists in just 30 games, he earned his shot with the Canucks. General Manager Patrik Allvin praised Karlsson for his development and competitive edge, noting his strong performance in the AHL and his potential at the NHL level .

Karlsson’s signing is part of the Canucks’ broader strategy to bolster their roster with value-driven acquisitions. Earlier in the season, they secured Jake DeBrusk, who has emerged as one of the most productive free-agent signings, leading the team with 14 goals and 9 assists in 28 games . Additionally, Kiefer Sherwood, signed to a two-year deal worth $1.5 million annually, has made a significant impact, including a natural hat trick in a game against the Colorado Avalanche

These moves reflect the Canucks’ commitment to building a competitive team through strategic signings and player development, aiming to strengthen their lineup without overspending.
